Troy held what they called an “ADVANCE” meeting today, and somehow, in the year 2026, a city of 90,000 people had no livestream, no recording, no Facebook post, no YouTube upload, and no public materials made available.
Nothing.
For a city that posts about ribbon cuttings, Fun Fridays, and food truck events, it’s funny how the updates suddenly dry up the moment the discussion involves Troy Fire Pensions or anything that requires real transparency.
Let’s be honest:
When you rename a City Council meeting an “ADVANCE,” but then don’t announce it, don’t broadcast it, and don’t share the documents afterward, that’s not advancing anything.
That’s retreating from the public.
The Troy community deserves open meetings, not surprise sessions hidden behind creative wording. We deserve public documents, not invisible agendas. We deserve leaders who communicate, not leaders who go silent when the topic gets uncomfortable.
If the City is confident in its decisions, why hide the meeting that discusses them?
If they want to restore trust, why make one of the least transparent meetings happen during one of the most controversial moments Troy has faced in years?
Calling it an “ADVANCE” doesn’t magically make it transparent.
It just makes it obvious what they’re trying to avoid.
Troy taxpayers deserve better.
Our firefighters deserve honesty.
And our city government owes us accountability, not wordplay.
